The Sport Sciences and Physical Education Faculty from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, has organized the Ist Annual to be held on the 22nd of October 2010. This event pays tribute to the late Trevor Williams one of the most prominent figures in European APA.
This conferences coordinated by Prof. José Pedro Ferreira a former PhD student of Trevor´s, will have as first keynote speaker Dr. P. David Howe, Senior Lecturer in the Anthropology of Sport and a key member of the Peter Harrison´s Centre for Disability Sport in School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University, U.K.
Dr. Howe and his Sport, Culture and Policy team are very much interested in a wide range of social issues (e.g. class, ethnicity, gender and physicality) and how these impact upon the community involved in disability sport. He will give a keynote address at the augural conference entitled:
“Athlete as Anthropologist, Anthropologist as athlete: a critical exploration of the Paralympic Movement”.
